Unlike most other countries, the penetration of debit and credit cards is very low in India, which leaves people with little choice to make digital purchases. Google Play currently supports debit card and credit card of select banks. The inclusion of net banking option could make it more convenient to some users to make digital purchases through the company’s store.
"We are continually looking at ways to enhance user experience, including payment options available, on our Play store," a Google India spokesperson told Mashable India.
Over the past few months, Google has been trying to make it easier for users in India to make digital purchases. It made Google Play prepaid vouchers available in India last year. Last month, at a developer’s meet, the company said Vodafone and Airtel, two of India’s largest carriers with over 300 million users between them, will support carrier billing option soon. At present, only Idea subscribers in India have carrier billing option on their phone.
