Keep your hot dog cannons and Blackmail (2023) Hindi Web Series24-karat gold plated statues. The realwinners of the 90th Academy Awards were all the hopeless romantics of the world, the friend-zone haters, the Mindy Kaling/BJ Novak stans.
Hilarious and talented IRL BFFs Mindy and B.J. — who I spend a great deal of my life wishing were more than just BFFs— attended the Oscars together and everyone rightfully lost their cool.
The two beautiful people captured our hearts while working together and playing complicated couple Kelly Kapoor and Ryan Howard on The Office. So to see them at a tricked-out version of Michael Scott's Dundie Awards for movies was A. LOT.

"I'm headed out for a night of fun with my best friend," she said from the backseat of a car, turning the camera to B.J. so he could add, "What's up Snapchat?!"
"Oh god, I'm so sorry," Mindy said, shaking her head with embarrassment. I die. Just imagine these two cuties coming up with the perfect bit in the car and landing on this simple fave. Or imagine they did NOT even plan this ahead of time and are just this in-sync.

Hours later, Mindy shared a selfie of the two looking stunning and incredibly couple-like seated next to each other at a table. No caption. Endless possibilities.

Meanwhile, B.J. posted a snapshot of their adorable photobooth strip, including a heart in the caption. And not just any heart, might I add. The RED one. Heart of all hearts.

I could stare at Mindy staring at B.J. staring at Mindy for the rest of my days and would consider my life well spent.

Even though Mindy and B.J. have made it clear they are simply very good friends, fans lost all chill at the sight of them attending the awards together.
Since Mindy gave birth to her first child (whose father is still unknown), everyone took this as a sign that B.J. is the dad.

If you have not been obsessing over this potential romance for the past decade or so like I have, here are some key things you should keep in mind.
In 2012 when asked about how his relationship with Mindy mirrored Kelly and Ryan's relationship on The Office, B.J. told Vulture, "We were never really dating, we were never really not dating. We didn’t know. No one knew. All you’d know for sure as that you’d always find one of us next to the other, even if we weren’t getting along.'"
"The main reason I'm reluctant to get married to Mindy is that every single person in our lives and Twitter feeds would say, 'I knew it.' I just couldn't f---ing deal with that. But we know. We know what's there," he went on to tell Entertainment Weekly in 2013.

In Mindy's 2015 book Why Not Me?she dedicated a precious chapter to B.J., dropping passionate words and ultimately defining their relationship as "soup snakes" — a nod to the time Michael Scott meant to say "soul mates" on The Officebut messed up.
"I will freely admit: My relationship with B.J. is weird as hell. He is not my boyfriend, but he is not exactly my best friend," she wrote. "The best way I would describe him is that he is my ex-husband, and we have a son who is away at boarding school, so our fighting can never get that bad, because it would upset our child. I don’t think Facebook would accept that as a new status. They would just categorize it as 'it's complicated.'"
Ugh. Perfect. Since then the two have lived their lives, starred alongside each other romantically again on Mindy's show The Mindy Project —for whichB.J. also served as a producer — and he recently supported Mindy by attending the premiere of her upcoming movie A Wrinkle In Time.
They've been genuinely cute as hell every chance they've gotten and let me just say that all these public appearances are not helping put the dream of them ending up together to rest.
