TheGame of Thrones power rankings determines which character is USA Movies | Adult Movies Onlinecurrently most likely to sit on the Iron Throne at the end of the entire series: not the power behind it, butactually ruling as King or Queen of Westeros.
We're making these predictions based on what the showrunners are likely to think the best possible story. You can see the rankings for the previous episode, "Beyond the Wall,"here.
Rest without peace, Littlefinger.
For the first time since we started the power rankings back in 2015, there is no entry for Lord Petyr Baelish. Back then he debuted at #3, and has been sliding down the chaos ladder ever since. Which just goes to show: in the game of thrones ... you should maybe quit while you're ahead.
For the dwindling number of Westerosi leaders who still want the Iron Throne and/or might be able to take it, here's where things shake out after the season 7 finale, "The Dragon and the Wolf."
The Pirate King is still in with a chance. Euron made a big show of walking out of the Dragon Pit summit, claiming he was going to return to the Iron Islands for the duration of the war against the undead. In fact, he's still in cahoots with Cersei, ferrying (and essentially being in charge of) a giant mercenary army from Essos. An army with elephants. Now that'splaying the game of thrones.
SEE ALSO: The definitive ranking of all 7 'Game of Thrones' Season 7 episodesGiven all that power, Euron would probably be higher on this list if Theon weren't coming for him, fired by the need to save his sister and redeem himself. We've seen Theon lose so often it's become boring; Season 8 is likely to show our Greyjoy friend completing his hero arc.
At last, Jaime grew a mind of his own! Disgusted by Cersei's doublecross, he headed north on his own in civilian clothes, seeking to reclaim his honor.
But for all his renowned skill in war, he's a poor substitute for the entire forces of Houses Lannister and Baratheon. The one-handed Kingslayer traveling alone through hostile Stark lands towards millions of the undead? That sounds like a good way to get yourself killed off, especially when the audience would be expecting Jaime to survive longer into the season.
The shock of his death would send Cersei over the edge, which in turn would make for great TV.
How could the littlest Stark end up on the Iron Throne, exactly? Easy: her avowed goal is to kill Cersei, and she has demonstrated an ability to inhabit the bodies of the people she kills.
Granted, this would be an insane way to end the story -- but why else does the show keep reminding us she's carrying a bag of masks?
SEE ALSO: 'Game of Thrones' fans have a huge theory about Arya's endgameNow that Littlefinger is out of the way and everything's peachy with Sansa, Arya is going to need somethingto do next season. Her Faceless Men skills would be wasted in the war with the White Walkers.
Far better to perform some kind rearguard action against a treacherous Queen who refused to help the North in its hour of need ...
Great job, your majesty. You managed to fool both Stark and Targaryen leaders into thinking you'll be fighting alongside them. You worked out a deal with the Iron Bank to fund the recapture of your leaderless kingdoms.
But thenwhat? As your brother said, whoever wins in the North will come for you next. And whichever side wins has at least one dragon with which to destroy you and the Red Keep for good.
"He's the heir to the Iron Throne," Bran told Sam about Jon at the end of "The Dragon and the Wolf." So why have we dropped him three spots in the rankings? Here's why. Now Bran and Sam -- with a huge assist from Gilly -- have figured out Jon's true destiny, they plan to tell him. It's safe to say that word will travel fast via one of those supersonic Winterfell ravens.
SEE ALSO: All hail King Jon Targaryen, first of his name: Why you should support Jon Snow for the Iron ThroneAnd then? Jon can try to keep the news from Dany that a) she's his aunt and b) he has a better claim to the throne than she does, but the dragon queen is going to find out sooner or later.
How do you think the woman who has spent seven seasons gathering her forces and training her dragons, preparing to be the undisputed Queen of Westeros, is going to react to that news? Do you think her newfound crush on him might fade a little?
Yep. He's not thathot. Or rather, he may be incredibly hot and crispy after the dragon queen is done with his usurping ass.
Wait, the showrunners wouldn't kill off Jon Snow again, would they? I think that's what we're being set up to believe. I also think that making Jon/Aegon "the prince (orprincess) who was promised," the savior of his people, would be one of the dullest endings you can imagine.
In short: Now his friends and family knowhe's the one true heir, Jon's ascendancy is so obvious that it probably isn't going to stay that way.
Now she's fallen for her nephew -- kind of like Oedipus in reverse -- it seems more and more like the dragon queen's story arc is a tragic one.
Fooled by Cersei, she's about to be stuck in the North and surrounded by Starks who resent her for making their King bend the knee, and may resent her further depending on what she does to this true heir.
She's already lost one dragon to the White Walkers and nearly lost another to Bronn's Scorpion. And then she went and advertised her one-dragon-down vulnerability to Cersei, who certainly noticed. Dany simply isn't as great a tactician as she thinks.
Convening a treason trial for Littlefinger while making him think Arya was in the dock was the baddest of badass moves Sansa has ever made. Better yet, it came with a dose of humility -- "I'm a slow learner," the Lady of Winterfell admitted.
As we've seen all season, Sansa is learning and growing into the best leader the Northern capital has had since Ned Stark. Maybe even better than Ned, because she doesn't abandon her home for foolish quests.
SEE ALSO: Sweet, sweet justice has a name in Westeros, and it's Sansa Motherf*cking StarkThese are good qualities if you want to survive a Winter where everyone is going to be fighting around you. Maybe, just maybe, you might outlast every other human outside the gates of undead-besieged Winterfell -- protected, perhaps, by Bran's magical abilities -- and find yourself Queen of Everything by default come the Spring.
That would fit George R.R. Martin's promised "bittersweet ending" to a T, and it would reward the one character who has suffered the most heinously in seasons past. When it comes to Sansa, the showrunners may well be looking for redemption for what the world -- and the North -- remembers they did.
His main obstacle has been breached. The wall is down at last after 8,000 years of guarding Westeros against him. Millions of wights are pouring through; everyone they kill will be added to their numbers. And he has some kind of undead ice dragon that can destroy any structure in the Seven Kingdoms whatsoever, even one that has strong magic woven into it.
I'm sorry, but you have to hand it to the guy. By the standards of this brutal, unforgiving and convention-breaking story, if the Night King wants the Iron Throne, it's his.
... but he probably doesn't. Or he might be defeated in single combat by Jon or someone else carrying dragonglass, which might (we think) destroy all the wights he turned at a stroke. Either way, we still think the most likely outcome of this story is an empty or annihilated Iron Throne.
SEE ALSO: Is 'Game of Thrones' going to give us a (gasp) happy ending? If the breathing inhabitants of Westeros win, they're likely to shun this scrapheap of a chair in favor of some sort of fairer system. A good number of the characters on this list would prefer to put the history of monarchy as they've known it behind them.
And presuming he survives the great wight war ahead, Tyrion Lannister would make a great George Washington for the new Westerosi republic, don't you think?
