Not even our reading habits were safe from 2017.
On Tuesday,Uschi Karnat Amazon Charts, Amazon's book ranking team, released data highlighting the top books and reading trends of 2017 ... and, well, the results are truly reflective of the crazy-ass year we just lived through.
SEE ALSO: Amazon just revealed the most popular Kindle books of all timeTopping the list for most read fiction is Margaret Atwood's uncannily prescient dystopian novel The Handmaid's Tale, followed by Stephen King's tale of killer clowns It. Both novels had breakout adaptations this year after Hulu transformed Handmaidsinto an Emmy-winning television series and Andrés Muschietti brought Itback to the big screen in September.
Meanwhile the most read nonfiction book of the year is a title perhaps we could all have used in 2017: The Subtle Art of Not Giving A F*ckby Mark Manson. Also on the list of top nonfiction is Minnesota Sen. Al Franken's memoir Al Franken, Giant of the Senate.Franken recently resigned from the Senate after multiple sexual harassment allegations.
In addition to revealing info like most read fiction and most read nonfiction of the year, Amazon also shared more granular reading data, like which books readers consumed faster on Kindle and Audible compared to others titles, the most listened to book on Alexa, and the most highlighted books on Kindle throughout the year.
