When Black Friday,Landlady’s Loose Legs Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday all come to a close, it comes time to think about other ways to spend your money — by giving back on Giving Tuesday.
Giving Tuesday, first launched in 2012 and now celebrated annually on the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving, was conceived as a day in which people could come together to give back, especially through donations to charitable organizations, campaigns, and nonprofits.
In the years since, Giving Tuesday has grown into a global generosity movement, with campaigns in over 60 countries, as well as 200 local campaigns in the U.S. On this day, you're encouraged to give time, expertise, money, or the power of your voice in order to help others.
According to a Giving Tuesday blog post, more than $1 billion has been raised in the U.S. alone since the day's inception.

And for those unable to give monetary donations, the team at Giving Tuesday has compiled a list of alternative ways to give back. The organization reports that 37 percent of those who participate in Giving Tuesday do so without directly giving money.
As part of Giving Tuesday efforts, Patagonia will match donations to organizations associated with Patagonia Action Works, a tool that allows people to find nearby grassroots groups fighting climate change. The campaign will last until Dec. 31, and Patagonia will match up to $10,000 per donation for a maximum match of $10,000,000.

Until the end of Giving Tuesday, the company will double all donations made by riders through its Lime Hero program to participating nonprofit organizations throughout the U.S. To take part, open the Lime app and tap the menu icon on the upper left corner, where you can select "Lime Hero." This feature lets you round up each ride's cost and donate that extra bit.

Starting on Giving Tuesday, PayPal is matching 10 percent of donations made through the PayPal Giving Fund, for a total of $600,000. It's also encouraging people to shop at small businesses that do good as part of its Give Better initiative.

Planned Parenthood, a nonprofit that provides reproductive health care, sex education, and health information, explains that thanks to an anonymous donor, Giving Tuesday donations to the organization will be matched dollar-for-dollar for a total of $100,000.
For donations made to nonprofits on Facebook on Dec. 3, the platform will be matching up to $7 million. In order to match a wide variety of causes, the matches will be capped at $100,000 per nonprofit, and $20,000 per donor.
Dress for Success, a nonprofit that economically empowers women by providing professional attire and career development, has created a line, called the Success Collection, that will raise money for Dress for Success' resources. Buying pieces from the line will fund Dress for Success.

T-Mobile has partnered with the hunger-relief organization Feeding America to donate up to 5 million meals to those in need. On Dec. 3, T-Mobile customers can donate up to five meals by saving any of the deals offered on the T-Mobile Tuesdays app. Each deal saved will mean one donated meal from T-Mobile to Feeding America. Additionally, every time anyone tweets #GivingOnUs, T-Mobile will donate 10 meals to Feeding America.

Donations made until the end of the day to the Southern Poverty Law Center, a nonprofit legal advocacy organization that specializes in civil rights law, will be matched up to $500,000 thanks to a donor dedicated to supporting the organization.

No Kid Hungry has partnered with Citibank this Giving Tuesday, which means all donations made to No Kid Hungry until midnight on Dec. 3 will be matched by Citibank, up to $100,000. For some context: $50 means 1,000 meals provided.

Etsy has partnered with Craft Emergency Relief Fund (CERF+) to create a relief fund for Etsy sellers who have had their livelihoods disrupted by natural disasters. The fund will help Etsy sellers rebuild their businesses by awarding grants to a select number of sellers. On Giving Tuesday, Etsy is matching donations up to $50,000 for the relief fund.
