Game of Thrones will turn to veteran directors to helm its final six episodes -- including two who are Randy Spears Archivesarguably the biggest experts in Westeros outside of George R. R. Martin himself.
We've confirmed that David Nutter, Miguel Sapochnik, and showrunners David Benioff & D.B Weiss will be the only four directors on Season 8.
There's no word yet on how many episodes each director will tackle, or in which order, but sources indicate that Benioff and Weiss plan to direct the series finale and bring their iteration of Martin's story to a close. In recent seasons, a director has usually helmed two episodes, shot concurrently, although with Benioff and Weiss' other responsibilities, it's possible Nutter or Sapochnik will take on an extra and leave the showrunners with the finale.
Nutter has directed six installments of the HBO hit thus far, including the infamous Red Wedding episode "The Rains of Castamere," as well as the finales for Season 3 and Season 5.
Sapochnik has previously directed four installments, overseeing some of the series' most ambitious episodes like "Hardhome," "The Battle of the Bastards," and Season 6 finale "The Winds of Winter."
Benioff and Weiss have each directed one episode -- Benioff went behind the camera for Season 3, episode 3, "Walk of Punishment," while Weiss helmed the Season 4 premiere, "Two Swords." While they've written the majority of the show's 67 episodes to date, this will be the first time they've directed together.
A premiere date for Game of Thrones' final season has yet to be announced -- it's expected to air sometime in 2018 or 2019.
